 Little reminder/pointer about mail sending
Posted by: Renegade - Mon, 2008 Jan 07 - Comments: 2 | Views: 256
avatar In light of a recent support question, I'd like to remind you all that our mail server is using the DNS blacklist from SORBS, both to protect us from being abused as a spam relay as well as to keep the volume of spam coming in as low as possible.

Unfortunately, sometimes you are dynamically assigned an IP-address that was previously used by a spammer, and thus blacklisted - since your IP is blacklisted, our server will refuse connections. Said recent support call reported that receiving went fine, but sending would be blocked, for example.

Therefore, if you are getting mail sending errors along the lines of "mail server not available or refused connection", please check your IP at http://www.au.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml?127.0.0.1 (replacing 127.0.0.1 with your actual WAN IP) - if it is blacklisted, the problem lies with a previous user of your IP address, not with our mail server. The SORBS list is entirely independent from us and we have no influence on their blacklist - we cannot remove you from it to allow connection to the mail server. The quickest solutions there are are to either try to reconnect to obtain a different IP address, or to use webmail instead.

If the problem persists, please contact us via IRC or PM, but you have to understand that, with more than 95% of all e-mails sent today being spam, we have to take defensive measures to protect the server and its users from drowning in viagra, penis enlargement and stock offers.

 ;This existed
Posted by: Renegade - Sun, 2007 Mar 11 - Comments: 0 | Views: 461
avatar Oh well...since all hostee-news are broadcasted automatically, no STX-related news were necessary for a long time.

Unfortunately, this means everytime I set up a new hostee, first thing displaying in their news is a 15 months old post about the main account being cancelled. So old, I don't even remember the issue. Seriously. I had totally wiped X1 out of my memory, and just assume I wouldn't lie to myself. Lift eyebrow

Anyway, this post exists to let casual visitors know that that issue was dealt with a week or so later (by moving to a better host), and today, more than a year later, everything is fine and stable (and has been for over a year). The main page is a little holey, mainly because I suck at writing descriptions, but as our hostees show, the "business" itself is running perfectly fine.

To give this newspost at least some value, I'd like to point out that in recent months, ATW, wthigon's Rules, RA2 Resurrection Project (only forums so far) and, just a few hours ago, RA2: Incursion have joined us. Just in case someone didn't notice. In addition, just few minutes ago, I finally replaced the horrible gallery skin with something nicer (downloaded, not self-made), and arranged the albums in categories, to make it more accessible. For example, you can filter out all non-STX related galleries now just by going here.

Outside of direct STX news, I am still in search for someone who plans to or is interested in starting a Tiberium Wars mod review/modding information site. I am not planning to directly join, but I would like to see such a site (I miss the old mod review sites) and form a strategic alliance. If you're interested, contact me.

Last but not least, many hosted news pages look a little vacant today. Don't forget to show off, guys Wink Your homepage is the first thing people see when being linked to your project, and a small post "I'm here" isn't very exciting Big Grin
Also, contact me about on-site displaying of gallery pictures...I installed a new file Wink

(P.S.: Title is a reference to RA2 modding, not a statement about the condition of the network Tongue)

 AI Editor updates
Posted by: DCoder - Sat, 2007 Jan 27 - Comments: 2 | Views: 612
avatar Motivated by my upcoming free time, I have decided to take some time and recode the AI Editor. I know AI E V2 has several glitches and shortcomings, but I think you guys can give me much more ideas than what I alone would be able to come up with. So, let's hear them. Anything goes, bug fixes, new features, new interface (this one is important, I was never really satisfied with the current one), etc.

Yes, I know the biggest wish is RP/ETS compatibility. It will be there.

 Welcome!
Posted by: DCoder - Sat, 2006 Apr 15 - Comments: 4 | Views: 1312
avatar Hello and welcome to my new home! As you obviously noticed, I created a new layout to celebrate this occasion Big Grin You can express your opinion about it in the poll on my front page Wink (And observe the reload-free voting technique, I love it.)

Well, there have been a few changes here, I should mention them:
  • The news are now streamed via the network's News System directly from the forums. Damn convenient, even if I say so myself.
  • The DevLog - this is where I'll post updates about my projects, which are not necessarily front-page material, but still can excite you.
  • The Tutorials section - GONE. I moved most of them to ModEnc already, and am in the process of moving the rest at the moment.
Well, that's all I can think of for the moment. Smile
